The Story Behind Kingdom of Happiness Tours
My name is Chencho Gyeltshen, founder of Kingdom of Happiness Tours. I love travelling. Always have. But like most people, two things often stood between me and the destinations I dreamed about — time and money.
I would spend hours browsing travel websites, social media, and travel blogs, watching others explore the world and imagining myself doing the same. Since I couldn’t travel as often as I wanted, I did the next best thing: I researched obsessively.
Whenever I planned a trip, I didn’t simply book flights and hotels. I studied everything — explored maps, researched transportation, checked distances, learned about local customs, looked for hidden places, and built my own itineraries from scratch. Before even arriving, I wanted to understand a destination as thoroughly as possible.
I wanted to know the ground reality. I wanted to travel confidently, avoid common mistakes, and experience a destination beyond the typical tourist route. The more I understood a place beforehand, the richer and more meaningful the experience became.
Looking back, that mindset eventually shaped the way I approach tourism today — and it is the foundation of everything we do at Kingdom of Happiness Tours.
🏛️ Nearly 7 Years in Royal Government Service
Before entering tourism, Chencho spent nearly seven years working within a Ministry under the Royal Government of Bhutan. This gave him a deep, insider understanding of Bhutan — its people, culture, traditions, administrative landscape, and true way of life that very few guides can claim.
🌏 Years Living and Working in Australia
Chencho later lived and worked in Australia for several years, where he was exposed to different cultures, service standards, international customer expectations, and ways of thinking. This dual perspective is rare — and it is exactly what makes his approach to Bhutan tourism so different.
