Bhutan’s Sustainable Development Fee and the visa fee are set by the government, so we list them on their own line. Everything else for your days in Bhutan is in the package price.

Paid separately
- Sustainable Development Fee: US$100 per adult per night; children 6–11 pay US$50; under 6 free. Indian nationals pay Nu. 1,200 per night.
- Visa fee: US$40 per person, one time (Indian nationals use a free entry permit instead).
- International flights to Paro, or travel to the border if you come overland.
- Travel insurance, including medical evacuation cover (strongly recommended).
- Drinks, tips, shopping and optional extras such as hot stone baths or helicopter flights.

What to know about prices and rules in 2027
Fee
SDF set until 31 August 2027
The Department of Tourism has fixed the US$100 nightly fee until 31 August 2027. For travel after that date, we will confirm the rate before you pay.
Tax
5% GST since January 2026
Bhutan introduced a 5% Goods and Services Tax on most goods and services from 1 January 2026. Your quote lists it clearly with every other cost.
Visa
Visa in about five days
Visas are applied for online and take up to five working days once the application is complete. Buy flights only after your visa is cleared.

Getting to Bhutan
Drukair and Bhutan Airlines fly to Paro from cities including Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Kolkata, Singapore, Dhaka and Dubai; schedules vary by season. You can also enter overland from India at Phuentsholing. We help you choose the best routing.

What is included in a Bhutan tour package?
Your licensed guide, private vehicle and driver, hotels, all meals, monument entrance fees on your itinerary, visa handling, internal permits and arrival and departure transfers. The Sustainable Development Fee, the US$40 visa fee, international flights, insurance and personal expenses are paid separately.
How much does a Bhutan tour cost in 2027?
Our packages start from about USD 1,180 per person for six days, plus the Sustainable Development Fee of US$100 per adult per night (set until 31 August 2027) and the US$40 visa fee. The final price depends on group size, hotel level and season, and we confirm it in writing.
Do I have to book through a tour operator?
No. Since Bhutan reopened in September 2022, visitors can book their trip independently. However, a licensed guide must accompany visitors, you may only stay in hotels approved by the Department of Tourism, and treks must be run with an accredited operator or guide. Most travellers find it simpler to let a local operator arrange everything.
Do I need a visa for Bhutan?
Visitors of all nationalities except India need a visa, applied for online. The fee is US$40 and processing takes up to five working days. Indian nationals receive an entry permit using a passport or voter ID card. We prepare and submit applications for our guests.
Can you change a package?
Yes. Every package on this page is a starting point. We can add or remove days, change hotels, include a festival, or combine a trek with a cultural tour.
When are the festivals in 2027?
Tentative 2027 dates include Punakha Drubchen (13–15 Feb), Paro Tshechu (18–22 Mar), Thimphu Tshechu (10–12 Oct) and Jakar Tshechu (6–9 Nov). Dates follow the lunar calendar and are confirmed closer to the time.
How far ahead should I book?
For festivals and October, 4–6 months ahead. For luxury lodges, 6–12 months. For other dates, 6–8 weeks is usually enough.
